Paganini 200 — Towards 2028

In 1828 Niccolò Paganini spent four months in Vienna and gave fourteen concerts that transformed the city’s musical life. Two hundred years on, the Paganini Ensemble Wien is working towards 2028 with a programme built on its four commitments: Paganini’s chamber music as its principal repertoire, source-based and historically informed interpretation, the complete recording of that music for Dynamic, and new works that connect Paganini’s legacy with the composers of today. This page will grow as the projects take shape.

Recordings

The complete chamber music of Niccolò Paganini, recorded for the Italian label Dynamic. Five volumes of the quartets for strings and guitar have appeared since 2022; the series continues towards the anniversary.

Research

Source-based work with the institutions devoted to Paganini’s life and music – the Paganini Society of Genoa and the Biblioteca Casanatense in Rome, where many of the composer’s original manuscripts are kept – and with the musicologists Dr. Maria Teresa Dellabora and Dr. Danilo Prefumo underpins every programme and recording.

International touring

Between 2021 and 2024 the ensemble performed throughout Europe, Canada and China. The touring programme towards 2028 will be published here.
