In February 2025 the Paganini Ensemble Wien was appointed Ambassador of the European Paganini Route (EPR).

As Ambassador, the ensemble carries an artistic mission: to raise awareness of Paganini’s chamber music as a significant part of Europe’s musical heritage, and to preserve and pass on the composer’s legacy through source-based, historically informed performance, the complete recording of his chamber music for Dynamic, and new works that connect his legacy with the music of today. The appointment recognises the ensemble’s work as one of the first groups devoted principally to Paganini’s chamber music, and it opens the way to concerts, cultural exchange and educational initiatives along the Route.

    About the European Paganini Route

The European Paganini Route is the cultural itinerary dedicated to the famous musician and his historical era. The EPR fosters cross-border cooperation through an international cultural and musical initiative in the spirit of the European idea.

Within European culture, Niccolò Paganini played a decisive role in the age of Romanticism – not only in music, but as a representative of a time of profound social and cultural change which, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, helped shape a new European spirit.

Madrid. National Auditorium (Chamber Room). May 14, 2022. Paganini Ensemble Vienna (Mario Hossen, violin; Marta Potuslka, viola; Alexandre Swete, guitar; Attila Pasztor, cello). Paganini works.

The Austro-Bulgarian violinist Mario Hossen is today one of the world’s greatest interpreters of Paganini. A few months ago he dazzled in Madrid with the London Symphony in the original version with score of his First concert De él. And now he has returned to offer a less heard Paganini, that of the guitar, because although he has gone down in history for his legend as an exceptional violinist with a diabolical pact, Paganini was also a great guitarist and he dedicated a lot of chamber music to that instrument.

  • "Chamber music is a complementary and indispensable aspect of Niccolò Paganini's production, rich in pages of high musical value in which the composer's imagination, with frequent bel canto reminsicences, unfolds with absolute naturalness. Especially in the guitar quartets Paganini has offered us the best example of his inexhaustible creative vein, with results of fascinating melodic and inventive beauty."
